Coral Snakes are beautiful, highly venomous, medium-sized (20 to 35 inches) snakes. Their patterning and coloration consists of bands of dark-red, yellow, and black. Relationship with Humans

Coral snakes are the only snake in Florida whose venom is neurotoxic, or paralyzing. All other venomous snakes in Florida are hemotoxic, attacking tissue. Coral snake fangs are found in the back of the mouth so they cannot generally inject venom with a fast bite. Because of their color and small size, coral snakes more often bite women and children who mistake them for a beaded necklace.
